Background
Born on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Kim Ji Soo grew up with a strong interest in performing arts and entertainment. During her school years, she was active in drama clubs and enjoyed acting long before becoming an idol. Although she eventually left high school, she later earned her diploma through Korea's High School Graduation Certification Examination, demonstrating the determination that would become a recurring theme throughout her career.
In 2011, Ji Soo joined YG Entertainment after passing the agency's auditions and spent five years training alongside numerous aspiring idols. Originally, YG planned to debut a larger girl group, but after years of competition, only four trainees were selected to become BLACKPINK. Before her official debut, Ji Soo appeared in commercials, music videos, and even made a cameo appearance in the hit drama The Producers (2015). On August 8, 2016, she debuted as BLACKPINK's lead vocalist and visual with Square One.
