Nam Joo Hyuk was born on February 22, 1994, in Busan, South Korea. As a teenager, his dream wasn't to become an actor but a professional basketball player. While attending Gyeongnam Middle School, he played on the school's basketball team for three years and hoped to pursue the sport professionally. However, a serious injury brought that dream to an unexpected end, forcing him to reconsider his future. Rather than giving up, he found a new path in modeling, where his height and athletic build quickly caught the industry's attention.
Nam Joo Hyuk officially entered the entertainment industry in 2013 when he walked the runway for the SONGZIO Homme Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Just one year later, he made his acting debut in the fantasy drama Surplus Princess. Since then, he has become one of South Korea's most recognizable leading actors through hit dramas including Who Are You: School 2015, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, The Light in Your Eyes, Start-Up, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, and films such as The Great Battle and Remember. He enlisted in the Capital Defense Command Military Police Group on March 20, 2023, and after completing his military service, signed an exclusive contract with FABLE COMPANY on January 2, 2026.
Fans love Nam Joo Hyuk because he combines the visuals of a top model with the emotional depth of a seasoned actor. Early in his career, he was often recognized for his striking appearance, but over time he proved himself through increasingly mature performances. His portrayals of vulnerable, kind-hearted, and emotionally complex characters have earned praise from both audiences and critics, particularly in dramas like The Light in Your Eyes and Twenty-Five Twenty-One.
Off-screen, Nam Joo Hyuk is known for his humble personality and strong work ethic. His journey—from losing his dream of becoming a basketball player to finding success as a model and actor—has inspired many fans. Rather than letting disappointment define him, he transformed a major setback into the beginning of an entirely new career.
