Born on January 19, 2006, in Munakata, Fukuoka, Japan, Uemura Tomoya discovered his passion for dance at an incredibly young age after receiving a Michael Jackson DVD from his father. Inspired by Michael Jackson's performances, he began training in multiple dance styles including popping, locking, and house dance, eventually spending more than a decade refining his skills. Throughout his childhood and early teens, Tomoya competed in numerous dance competitions across Japan, earning national titles and building a reputation as one of the country's most promising young dancers long before he entered the idol industry.
After achieving strong results in competitive dance, Tomoya was scouted by JYP Entertainment following a performance at the 2019 World Dance Competition. He officially became a trainee in September 2019 and later participated in Nizi Project Season 2, where he consistently ranked near the top of every evaluation. Following his successful run on the show, he debuted as the leader of NEXZ in 2024.
