About Kim Woo Seok

Background

Kim Woo Seok (김우석) is a South Korean actor known for his performances in popular Korean dramas such as Love Playlist (2017), Voice 2 (2018), Military Prosecutor Doberman (2022), Rookie Cops (2022), and The Forbidden Marriage (2022–2023). He is also the younger brother of Kim Min Seok, the vocalist of the South Korean musical duo MeloMance.

Before pursuing acting, Kim Woo Seok developed an interest in music and initially studied practical music. Inspired by the musical Les Misérables, he began preparing for a career in musical theater. His transition into screen acting happened unexpectedly when he took a small role in a web drama as a part-time job. During filming, a writer recognized his potential and encouraged him to audition for Love Playlist.

He officially made his acting debut in 2017 as Choi Seung Hyuk in the second season of the popular web series Love Playlist. He reprised the role in the third season, gaining recognition among younger viewers for his natural acting and charming screen presence.

In 2018, he joined the crime thriller Voice 2 as Jin Seo Yool, a skilled member of the emergency call center's Golden Time Team. He continued portraying the character in Voice 3 (2019) and made a special appearance in Voice 4 (2021).

Kim expanded his acting experience through A Piece of Your Mind (2020) and the fantasy romance Scripting Your Destiny (2021). In 2022, he appeared in the Disney+ coming-of-age drama Rookie Cops, portraying Seo Beom Joo, a student at the Korean National Police University.

That same year, he attracted attention for his performance as No Tae Nam in Military Prosecutor Doberman. His portrayal of a privileged and morally troubled young man demonstrated his ability to take on darker, more complicated characters.

He further strengthened his reputation with his first historical romantic comedy, The Forbidden Marriage (2022–2023), starring alongside Kim Young Dae and Park Ju Hyun. Playing Lee Shin Won, a loyal royal guard and childhood friend of the female lead, he earned praise for his emotional performance and romantic chemistry.

In April 2023, Kim Woo Seok enlisted in the South Korean military as an active-duty soldier, temporarily stepping away from his entertainment career to fulfill his mandatory service.

He was subsequently cast as Park Tae Gyeong in the 2026 medical drama Doctor X: Mafia in White, alongside Kim Ji Won, Lee Jung Eun, and Son Hyun Joo. The series follows a brilliant surgeon who challenges corruption and institutional problems within a university hospital.

With experience spanning contemporary romance, crime thrillers, historical dramas, and musical theater, Kim Woo Seok continues to establish himself as a versatile performer in the South Korean entertainment industry.
