Colony movie breaking moviegoer record

"Colony" continues its impressive box office streak, setting new records just days after its release.

According to data released by the Korean Film Council, the highly anticipated zombie thriller surpassed 3 million moviegoers on May 30, reaching a cumulative audience of 3,109,480 admissions. Since premiering on May 21, the film achieved the milestone in just 10 days, making it the fastest film released in 2026 to reach both the 3 million mark and its reported break-even point.

The film has also become the fastest Korean release of the year to surpass 1 million, 2 million, and 3 million moviegoers, overtaking the pace previously set by the blockbuster hit "The King's Warden."

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yeon Sang Ho, known for the internationally successful zombie films "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula," "Colony" follows a group of survivors trapped inside a quarantined building after a rapidly mutating virus begins spreading throughout the city. As the outbreak intensifies, the infected evolve in increasingly unpredictable and dangerous ways, forcing the survivors into a desperate fight for survival.

The film boasts a star-studded cast led by Jun Ji Hyun, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, Koo Kyo Hwan, and Go Soo.

Strong word-of-mouth, positive audience reactions, and growing interest in Yeon Sang Ho's return to the zombie genre have helped fuel the film's rapid rise at the box office. Industry observers will now be watching closely to see whether "Colony" can continue its momentum and challenge some of the biggest Korean box office successes in recent years.

Congratulations to the cast and crew on this remarkable achievement.
