Born Mark Lee (Korean name Lee Min Hyung) on August 2, 1999, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Mark spent his childhood living in Toronto, Vancouver, New York, and eventually Seoul. He successfully passed the 2012 SM Global Auditions in Canada, becoming the first member recruited for what would eventually become NCT. Before debuting, he trained for several years while developing the rap, dance, and performance skills that would later make him one of SM Entertainment's most recognizable artists.
Mark made history in 2016 by debuting in three different NCT units—NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DREAM—within the same year, an unprecedented achievement in K-pop. As the original leader of NCT DREAM, he helped establish the group's identity before graduating in 2018 under the unit's original age-based system. After the graduation concept was abolished, he returned to the group in 2020, delighting fans worldwide. Mark later launched a successful solo career with The Firstfruit in 2025 before announcing his departure from NCT, SM Entertainment, and all associated units in April 2026. In June 2026, he began the next chapter of his career by founding his own label, Upper Room.
