Background
BTS (방탄소년단), also known as Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy group under BIGHIT MUSIC, a subsidiary of HYBE. The group consists of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook. BTS debuted on June 13, 2013, with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and its lead track "No More Dream." Their Korean name, Bangtan Sonyeondan, translates approximately to "Bulletproof Boy Scouts," reflecting the group's original mission of protecting young people from social pressures, prejudice and criticism. In 2017, BTS also introduced "Beyond the Scene" as an additional English interpretation of its name, symbolizing growth and moving forward. The group's official fandom is called ARMY, and its music spans hip-hop, pop, R&B, electronic music and rock, frequently exploring themes of identity, mental health, youth, self-love and personal growth.
Originally developed around a hip-hop concept, BTS gradually expanded into one of the world's most influential pop groups. Their breakthrough came through releases including The Most Beautiful Moment in Life series, Wings, the Love Yourself trilogy and Map of the Soul: 7. Songs such as "I NEED U," "Blood Sweat & Tears," "DNA," "FAKE LOVE," "Boy With Luv," "Dynamite," "Butter" and "Permission to Dance" helped establish BTS as a major international act. The group became the first Korean act to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, performed at major international award ceremonies and sold out stadiums around the world. Beginning in 2022, BTS shifted its focus toward individual activities as the members completed South Korea's mandatory military service. All seven members finished their obligations by June 2025. On March 20, 2026, BTS released its fifth Korean-language studio album, ARIRANG, marking its first full-group album in nearly four years, and launched the BTS WORLD TOUR 'ARIRANG' in April 2026.
