Background
Jin (진), born Kim Seokjin (김석진) on December 4, 1992, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and member of the internationally acclaimed K-pop group BTS (Bangtan Boys) under BIGHIT MUSIC. Born in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, and raised in Gwacheon, Jin originally planned to pursue an acting career rather than become a singer. He studied film and acting at Konkuk University and was reportedly approached by a Big Hit Entertainment casting representative while traveling to university. Despite having little formal singing or dance training at the time, he joined the company and began preparing for an idol debut. Jin officially debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013, through the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and its title track "No More Dream." As the group's oldest member and one of its vocalists, he became known for his emotional singing style, expressive performances, playful humor and self-given nickname, "Worldwide Handsome.”
Throughout his career, Jin has contributed to BTS's music while developing a distinctive solo identity centered on expressive vocals, pop-rock influences and emotionally meaningful songs. His BTS solo tracks include "Awake," "Epiphany" and "Moon," while his independent releases include "Tonight," "Abyss" and "Super Tuna." In October 2022, he released "The Astronaut," a collaboration with Coldplay that served as a heartfelt message to fans before his military enlistment. Jin became the first BTS member to begin mandatory military service, enlisting on December 13, 2022, and completing his service on June 12, 2024. Following his discharge, he resumed entertainment activities through the variety series Run Jin, released his first solo mini album Happy in November 2024 and followed it with Echo in May 2025. He also embarked on his first solo concert tour, #RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR, in 2025, further establishing himself as a solo performer while remaining an active member of BTS.
