Background
V (뷔), born Kim Taehyung (김태형) on December 30, 1995, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actor best known as a member of the internationally acclaimed K-pop group BTS (Bangtan Boys) under BIGHIT MUSIC. Born in Daegu and raised primarily in Geochang, South Korea, V developed an interest in music and performing during childhood. He initially dreamed of becoming a singer and studied the saxophone before entering the entertainment industry. His path to BTS began unexpectedly when he accompanied a friend to a Big Hit Entertainment audition in Daegu and was encouraged by a casting representative to audition himself. After successfully joining the company, V trained in singing, dancing and performance before officially debuting with BTS on June 13, 2013, through the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and its title track "No More Dream." Known for his distinctive deep baritone voice, expressive stage presence and versatile artistic interests, V became one of the group's most recognizable performers.
Throughout BTS's career, V has contributed to the group's vocal performances while developing an individual musical identity influenced by jazz, soul, R&B and classic pop. His solo songs within BTS's discography include "Stigma," "Singularity" and "Inner Child," while his independent releases include "Scenery," "Winter Bear," "Sweet Night" and "Christmas Tree." In 2016, he made his acting debut in the historical Korean drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, portraying the character Suk Han-sung. He later released his first official solo album, Layover, on September 8, 2023, featuring songs such as "Slow Dancing," "Love Me Again" and "Rainy Days." The project highlighted his preference for relaxed R&B arrangements, soulful vocals and understated musical production. V began his mandatory military service on December 11, 2023, serving in the South Korean Army's Special Duty Team within the military police. He completed his service on June 10, 2025, returning to civilian life alongside fellow BTS member RM. Beyond music, V is recognized for his interest in photography, fashion, art and his friendships with several prominent Korean actors.
