Meet Gyumin of XODIAC: learn about the Korean singer's background, age, height, vocal training, trainee journey, personality, love of music, hobbies, role models and fun facts.
Kim Gyumin (김규민), known professionally as Gyumin (규민), is a South Korean singer and dancer and a member of the K-pop boy group XODIAC. He was born on December 12, 2000, and is from Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. Long before making his official debut, Gyumin focused heavily on developing his skills as a vocalist and dancer. He studied practical music with a focus on vocals at Baekseok Arts University and attended Joy Dance Academy while preparing for an idol career. He also shared vocal covers online and spent approximately four years training before finally making his debut.
Gyumin joined One Cool Jacso Entertainment and was introduced through the company's OCJ Newbies trainee project before becoming part of XODIAC. He officially debuted with the group on April 25, 2023, with "Throw A Dice" and is known particularly for his vocals and powerful dance performances. Since debuting, Gyumin has spoken about becoming increasingly comfortable onstage; while he initially found himself overwhelmed during performances, experience has helped him become more relaxed and experiment with different gestures and expressions. He has also expressed a desire for XODIAC to explore different musical genres while continuing to grow as performers.

Gyumin's full name is Kim Gyumin (김규민), and he was born on December 12, 2000, in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. He grew up with his parents and a younger brother.
Music wasn't something Gyumin began studying only after becoming a trainee. He attended Baekseok Arts University and studied practical music with a focus on vocals, giving him formal vocal training before his XODIAC debut.
He also took dance classes at Joy Dance Academy, so both singing and dance were already significant parts of his training before he became known to fans as a member of XODIAC.
Gyumin reportedly spent around four years training before his 2023 debut, making XODIAC the result of a long period of preparation rather than an overnight entry into the K-pop industry.
During his trainee years, Gyumin and Beomsoo joined their current company only one day apart. Beomsoo remembers the two of them eating together and talking about their worries, which helped them become close while adjusting to trainee life.
Gyumin describes himself as hardworking and sincere, but there's one personality trait he wishes he could change: he says he has a difficult time getting angry, even in situations where expressing that emotion might be appropriate.
Although he can appear confident onstage, Gyumin is actually a shy person, creating a contrast between his personality away from performances and the much more powerful image he shows while dancing.
Gyumin's hobbies include playing the guitar and reading books, giving him a pair of relatively quiet activities to turn to when he isn't rehearsing or performing with the group.
His days off aren't necessarily completely free from work. Gyumin says he usually spends them watching television or practicing, and when asked what he was particularly obsessed with lately, his answer was simply "practice."
Fans often compare Gyumin to a puppy, and the comparison has become part of his identity within the fandom. His nickname "Gyumaji" combines his name with the Korean word gangaji, meaning puppy, and Gyumin himself acknowledges that fans frequently call him one.
Gyumin says one of his biggest charms is the contrast between his distinctive vocal tone and powerful dance style. He considers those two very different sides of himself among the qualities he most wants fans to notice.
His favorite idol and longtime role model is EXO's Baekhyun, an especially fitting choice considering Gyumin's own focus on vocals and his desire to continue improving as a singer.
When asked what he could happily eat every day, Gyumin chose chicken and rice-bowl dishes, while his drink of choice at the time was iced tea.
Gyumin considers himself the smart member of XODIAC. When the members were asked to associate one another with different qualities, he chose himself for the "smart" category — so at least his confidence in his brainpower isn't lacking.
One of Gyumin's more unexpected talents is doing voice impressions. When XODIAC were asked about hidden skills, he demonstrated that he can imitate Oh Il-nam, Player 001 from Squid Game.
When asked where he would most like to go immediately, Gyumin didn't pick an exotic vacation destination or somewhere overseas — he simply chose home. However, the place where he says he feels most relaxed is actually the vocal room at his company's building.
Gyumin has become noticeably more comfortable performing since XODIAC's debut. He admitted that his mind used to go blank when he stepped onstage, but with experience he has learned to relax, change his gestures and try new things during performances.
He takes XODIAC's opportunities seriously because he knows they aren't guaranteed. Gyumin has said that the members cherish every stage, performance, photo shoot and event they receive and want to keep moving forward while they have that momentum.
Gyumin helped explain why XODIAC chose "Heyday" as the title track of their first single album Xoul Day. Because the release arrived close to their first anniversary, the members wanted its fan-focused message to make the album especially meaningful for both XODIAC and X-BLISS.
His major career goal is straightforward but important to him: Gyumin wants XODIAC to earn first place on a music show, something he has continued to identify as one of the dreams he most wants the group to accomplish.
