Juwang was born on May 2, 2006, in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. He grew up in the nearby coastal city of Pohang, which he considers his hometown.

• His full birth name is Jang Juwang (장주왕). He uses his given name professionally rather than adopting a completely different stage name.
