상연 | Lee Sang Yeon
Sangyeon (상연) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and the leader and main vocalist of THE BOYZ.
Sangyeon was born on November 4, 1996, in Garak-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, and attended the prestigious Hanlim Art High School, a training ground for many idols before him. Prior to debut, THE BOYZ members appeared in cameo and lead roles in other artists' music videos, and Sangyeon trained under Cre.Ker Entertainment as part of the pre-debut lineup originally introduced as Cre.kerz. The group's pre-debut reality show Flower Snack gave fans an early look at the members before their official formation, and Sangyeon was named leader from the very beginning. He debuted with THE BOYZ on December 6, 2017, under the mini album The First, and has carried the leader position through the group's entire run — including its most turbulent chapter, the 2026 agency dispute with ONE HUNDRED. He enlisted for mandatory military service on March 17, 2025, temporarily stepping back from his leadership duties while serving.

Sangyeon is affectionately dubbed the "father" of THE BOYZ, and it's easy to see why — he's steady, dependable, and quietly holds the group together behind the scenes, often putting the other members' wellbeing above his own. But don't mistake his responsible streak for stiffness; Sangyeon has a playful, easily-amused side that comes out in variety segments and vlogs, where his laugh is instantly recognizable. Fans (THE B) love him for his humility given how much weight he carries as leader, his warmth toward every member individually, and the way he never seeks the spotlight even though he's more than capable of holding it. His songwriting credits across the group's discography have also earned him deep respect as an artist, not just a frontman.
