Background
Born Xu Minghao on November 7, 1997, in Liaoning, China, The8 showed exceptional talent from a young age. He began practicing Chinese Wushu at just five years old, eventually winning first place in a National Children's Martial Arts Competition. As he grew older, his interests shifted toward dance, and he spent six years training in b-boying and breakdancing, eventually studying at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. His life changed when a Pledis Entertainment staff member noticed him practicing through a studio window and offered him an audition.
After moving to South Korea, The8 trained for only one year and five months, one of the shortest trainee periods among SEVENTEEN's members, before debuting on May 26, 2015, as a member of the Performance Team. Alongside his activities with SEVENTEEN, he has steadily built a successful solo career, releasing his digital single "Dreams Come True" in 2019 and serving as a dance mentor on Chinese television. In 2026, he expanded his musical activities once again by debuting in the special unit V8 with Vernon, releasing the mini album V8.
