Born Hansol Vernon Chwe on February 18, 1998, in Manhattan, New York, Vernon is the son of a Korean father and an American mother. When he was five years old, his family relocated to Seoul, South Korea, where he grew up. Even after moving, his family continued speaking English at home, allowing him to become one of SEVENTEEN's most fluent English speakers while also adapting to life in Korea.
Vernon's journey into K-pop began when he was street-cast near his middle school at the age of 14. With his parents' support, he eventually left school to dedicate himself to training under Pledis Entertainment. He debuted with SEVENTEEN on May 26, 2015, as a member of the Hip-Hop Team, where he quickly became known for his distinctive rap style, songwriting ability, and laid-back personality. Beyond his work with the group, Vernon has become one of SEVENTEEN's most prolific lyricists, and in 2026, he debuted in the special duo V8 alongside The8, releasing the mini album V8.
