Born Im Na Yeon on September 22, 1995, in Seoul, South Korea, Nayeon's journey to becoming an idol almost never happened. When she was younger, JYP Entertainment approached her with a child-model casting offer, but her mother declined because she worried Nayeon was too young for the entertainment industry. Years later, Nayeon secretly entered JYP's 7th Open Audition in 2010 without telling her mother—and successfully passed. She later became part of 6mix, a planned JYP girl group that was ultimately canceled before debuting. After spending 10 years as a trainee, the longest of any TWICE member, she competed on the survival show SIXTEEN, where she became both the first contestant introduced and the first member officially selected for TWICE.
