Background
Born Kang Seul Gi on February 10, 1994, in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Seulgi grew up with her parents, older brother, and grandmother. Her dream of becoming a singer began early, leading her to audition for SM Entertainment while she was still in the sixth grade. She officially joined the company as a trainee in 2007, beginning what would become an exceptionally long seven-year training period. In December 2013, she was introduced as one of the first members of SM Rookies, giving fans an early look at the performer who would soon become one of K-pop's most respected all-rounders.
Before Red Velvet officially debuted, Seulgi appeared in Henry Lau's "Fantastic" music video and an EXO concert VCR for "My Lady."
