Born Son Seung Wan on February 21, 1994, in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, South Korea, Wendy spent part of her childhood in Canada after moving there with her older sister following fifth grade. She later lived in both Ontario, Canada, and Minnesota, United States, where she became fluent in English while also studying some French and Spanish. During her years abroad, Wendy participated in her school's choir and developed a deep love for music while also excelling academically.
Wendy's path to K-pop happened almost by accident. In 2012, she accompanied a friend to an SM Global Audition in Canada with no intention of auditioning herself. She decided to try anyway—and was the one who ended up receiving an offer from SM Entertainment. After debuting with Red Velvet in 2014, Wendy became recognized as one of K-pop's premier vocalists. She later made history as Red Velvet's first soloist with Like Water in 2021. Following the conclusion of her SM Entertainment contract in 2025, Wendy signed with ASND, released her EP Cerulean Verge, and embarked on her first solo world tour, W:ealive, while continuing activities as a member of Red Velvet.
Fan-made pieces inspired by drama nights, bias feelings, and soft delulu moods.
Wendy is widely admired for possessing one of the strongest voices in K-pop. Her impressive vocal range, emotional delivery, and technical consistency have made her the backbone of many of Red Velvet's biggest songs. Whether performing powerful ballads or upbeat pop tracks, she has earned respect from fellow idols, vocal coaches, and fans alike for her exceptional singing ability.
Beyond her talent, Wendy's resilience has inspired millions. After suffering a devastating stage accident in 2019 that forced her to step away from performing for nearly a year, she worked tirelessly through rehabilitation before returning to the stage stronger than ever. Combined with her warm personality, generosity, and infectious sense of humor, Wendy has become one of Red Velvet's most beloved members.
