Background
Chaeryeong was born in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Alongside her older sister, Lee Chaeyeon, she developed a passion for dance from an early age. In 2013, the sisters competed together on K-Pop Star 3. Although neither advanced to the final rounds, their performances impressed JYP Entertainment enough to earn both of them trainee contracts. Chaeryeong later competed on JYP's survival show SIXTEEN, narrowly missing a spot in the group that would become TWICE after being eliminated in the final episode.
Rather than giving up, Chaeryeong continued training for nearly five years—one of the longest trainee periods among ITZY members. Her perseverance paid off when she debuted as ITZY's main dancer on February 12, 2019, with "DALLA DALLA."
