Ian, born Jeong Lee Aan on October 9, 2009, was born in Hyehwa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. An only child, she was born on Hangul Day, the national holiday celebrating the creation of the Korean alphabet. Before ever stepping onto a K-pop stage, Ian gained experience in front of the camera as a child model, becoming comfortable with photoshoots and performing from a young age.
